AboutUS
"Dandelion Project" is a registered charity in Hong Kong. It was founded in 2013 by a group of local students who shared a common concern about education in rural China. Through voluntary teaching trips, family visits, and other activities, we hope to provide an opportunity for Chinese children to gain education outside the normal system, and also to allow Hong Kong tertiary education students to experience the culture and traditions of rural China.
We were founded on 27th January 2013 by a group students in Hong Kong tertiary education institutions. With previous experiences in voluntary teaching in China, we understand some of the problems and limited horizons for children growing up in rural China. In recent years the Chinese government have been attempting to improve the standards in schools outside the cities, but there is still a long way to go for village schools to reach the level of their urban counterparts. Economics also plays an important factor - after the nine years of compulsory education, many families simply cannot afford to continue to support their child in school, and so opportunities to enter the professions are closed off at an early stage. Further, a lack of role models means that children (and their parents) are often unaware of the opportunities available in wider society.
We therefore set up the “Dandelion Project” as a student start-up voluntary teaching non- profit organisation. We want to bring together like-minded tertiary students in Hong Kong to use our experience to give something back to society. Dandelion Project is intended to bring students from different backgrounds together through voluntary teaching, exhibitions, sharing sessions, and, like the dandelion itself, spread the seeds of knowledge, education and hope to children in rural China. By helping village students to understand the value of knowledge and education, we hope to provide them with the tools to make the most of their future.
27 JAN 2013, WE ARE FOUNDED.

OurCharacteristics:
1
Inspiring Others
We believe the essence of Dandelion Project is to inspire young people to fulfil their potential. We want our volunteers’ positive characters and life stories to demonstrate to the children that they can achieve more in life than they thought possible.
2
Creativity x Activity
We want the students to experience more than just passive teaching, and so we develop creative, activity-based learning experiences. In addition to English, science, and other conventional subjects, we teach lessons such as leadership, performance and life education. Through and activity and group-based teaching methods, we encourage students to grow and to encourage diversity.
3
Joint-University
Dandelion is not limited to a single institution. Our activities are open to all post-secondary students in Hong Kong. The mix of different universities, different social backgrounds and different nationalities, means that volunteers have much to learn from each other, and have the chance to grow themselves whilst helping others to grow.
DPCommitee

Everything Dandelion Project has achieved cannot have been without the hard work of its committee members. We officially registered as a charity in Hong Kong in the summer of 2015. We are organised into an Executive Board, and a committee covering “trip planning”, “internal” and “external” functions. We recruit new committee members in January and September.
